Greenville woman hurt when car, moose collide

SHIRLEY — A 28-year-old Greenville woman narrowly escaped serious injury after her vehicle collided with a moose on Route 15 in Shirley on Thursday.

Investigator Scott Richardson of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department said Michelle Flieglman received cuts and bruises after her vehicle struck the moose and the animal landed on top of her car. The bull moose, estimated to weigh 1,000 pounds, crushed the vehicle’s roof down to the top of the car’s seats, he said.

Two children, ages 12 and 8, who were riding in the back seat of Flieglman’s vehicle and were restrained in seat belts, were not injured in the 9:15 p.m. accident. Flieglman was taken by ambulance to the Charles A. Dean Hospital in Greenville, was treated and then released, according to Richardson.

Flieglman’s 1986 Ford Taurus was demolished and the moose died, Richardson said.
