History being revised

“In the name of God, Amen.” So opens the Mayflower Compact. This pact was a rule of law for the small settlement of Plymouth, to which all must subscribe before leaving the ship to enter the new land. These Plymouth Pilgrims in Massachusetts gave thanks for good crops, hence inaugurating Thanksgiving as an American harvest feast. More than 200 years later President Lincoln, hoping to bind together a nation torn by two years of civil war, proclaimed the last Thursday of November 1863 to be a national thanksgiving day for the bountiful gifts of the land. My encyclopedia states that Thanksgiving Day in the United States is “a day set apart annually and appointed by the president for giving thanks to God for the favors and mercies of the year past.”

But the Bangor Daily News’ Mini Page (Nov. 22) tells our children that “the Pilgrims wanted to say `thank you’ to their American Indian friends.” History is being rewritten by the revisionists in order to accomplish their plan to erase God from every area of our government. Our children are the victims. Is it any wonder more and more parents are choosing to educate their children at home? Fay Merrill Millinocket
