State officials are investigating three suspicious fires that occurred last weekend in Washington and Hancock counties.
Forest rangers responded to fires in Trescott; in Township 16 MD, northwest of Cherryfield; and on Long Island off Blue Hill. All appeared to have been set by arsonists, said District Forest Ranger Doug Getchell of Jonesboro.
“We have some leads to follow concerning two of the fires,” said Getchell. He would not speculate if any of the fires were related.
Two acres burned in the town of Trescott, and nearly 30 acres were destroyed in Township 16 MD. Three acres burned on Long Island.
