Maine cabinetmaker ready for publicity from TV show

BATH — The owners of a local cabinetmaking company thought they were going to have to give up carpentry in favor of letter-writing after the company was featured on a TV show eight years ago.

This time, the owners of The Kennebec Co. say they are prepared for the publicity surrounding the public television program, “This Old House.”

“We have our literature prepared and ready,” said Dave Leonard, who runs the company along with Jeffrey Peavey.

The pair decided to go into business 18 years ago and ended up replicating Victorian, Shaker and country-styled cabinetry in historic homes and in replicas of older homes.

They are now the largest full-service, custom-design cabinetmakers in New England, with around 20 employees.

“This Old House” will be filming in the company’s showroom and at its West Bath manufacturing facility because the company is designing a kitchen for a 1710 farmhouse in Acton, Mass., which is being restored on the show.
