FORT KENT — Jack Norris, nurse anesthetist at the Northern Maine Medical Center at Fort Kent, had an article published in the August issue of the AANA Journal, the publication of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
In his article, “Fire Safety In The Operating Room,” Norris outlined causative factors associated with operating room fires, provided suggestions to avoid fires, and actions that can be taken in an operating room.
Norris said, “The operating room environment is considered a potentially significant fire hazard. The role of the anesthetist in preventing and handling fire is pivotal to patient survival.”
Norris received his nurse anesthetist education from Albany Medical Center at Albany, N.Y., and his master’s degree from Ohio State University at Columbus, Ohio. He has been director of anesthesia at the NMMC for two years. He is a National Fire Protection Association level III firefighter and a certified fire instructor in Maine and New Hampshire.
