AUBURN — A plea bargain for a former Lisbon Falls teacher accused of having sex with three male students unraveled when the alleged victims and their parents complained.
Kelly Galligan, 28, had planned to plead guilty to three misdemeanor sex crimes. But the tentative plea bargain negotiated by her lawyer and a prosecutor was withdrawn Thursday.
The former elementary school teacher is accused of having sex with the Lisbon High School boys from June until late December 1993.
Because the plea bargain fell through, Galligan was expected to proceed with a hearing in Androscoggin County Superior Court to suppress statements she made to police on Dec. 31.
Galligan was led to believe the questioning involved helping police locate some runaways, said her lawyer, Leonard Sharon. Police failed to give her proper Miranda warnings, he added.
Galligan was indicted in January on one misdemeanor and four felony counts of sexual abuse of a minor. The felonies each carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison; the misdemeanor is punishable by a maximum jail term of 364 days.
