The Brewer City Council has approved a proposal submitted by Councilor Donna Thornton to initiate a curbside recycling program in the city.

City Manager Harold Parks will solicit proposals from area firms for monthly residential curbside recycling to begin Oct. 1 and end June 30, 1995.

Bids will be due prior to April 15 and will be opened at 10 a.m. April 15.

The city plans to recycle newspapers, plastic milk bottles, magazines, metal cans and glass.

Bidders must provide evidence that their company is capable of performing the service, list how many clients are using their service today, and tell how long their company has been servicing clients.

The city is also seeking a quote on the cost of 3,600 18-gallon recycling bins with the city name and serial numbers.

The company will also need adequate insurance coverage.
