Voice mail service set at Pittsfield> Residents can sample system free of charge

PITTSFIELD — Computer technology will bring Pittsfield residents closer to a variety of area activities with the plans Diane and Thayne Inman have for their new business.

Business sponsorships through their new voice mail service in Pittsfield will allow local residents access to message centers for lists of civic, club and organization meetings; events at the Community Theatre; local church services, school activities and related cancellations; medical services; a home buying hot line and other information.

Beginning Monday, March 28, anyone with touch-tone telephone service in the Pittsfield calling area, or a phone with touch-tone capability, can call 487-4365 to try out the system. The initial greeting will direct people to the information they need. By dialing voice box 201, the caller will learn how the Inmans’ service works and information on other services.

For the first month listings on the service will be free. Businesses will be asked to sponsor specific announcements on the information line.

For $15 per month, businesses or individuals can have their own voice mailbox that will serve them much like an answering machine. They will be granted a mailbox number to distribute to friends or business contacts. Individuals will record their own message, have the ability to change it as necessary and retrieve messages from wherever they happen to be.

The voice mail service is but one of the many features the Inmans hope to offer. Already, they have the capacity to provide a biweekly mortgage payment service, a search for assistance with financial aid for college, and printing personalized children’s books. In the future, the Inmans hope to add job search information and expand the voice mail capability. They also are talking with school officials to develop an opportunity for local teachers to be reached through voice mail for information on daily homework assignments or requests to contact parents or students.

The Inmans can be contacted by calling 487-3110.
