HOULTON — A 17-year-old Houlton youth has been arrested and charged with criminal threatening after he allegedly threatened a man Tuesday with a knife, police said Thursday.
According to Houlton Police Officer Jake Shorey, the youth was arrested Wednesday afternoon.
Shorey said the teen was among a group of students outside Pizza Plus on Main Street during their lunch break from Houlton High School. A fight had broken out between two students and a crowd had gathered to watch.
Ollie Caron, 33, of Houlton saw the disturbance and pushed his way through the crowd to break up the fight. Among those he pushed aside was a friend of the youth who was arrested Wednesday.
At that point, Shorey said, the youth who was arrested decided to stick up for his friend and allegedly threatened Caron with a knife.
Shorey noted that neither the youth who was arested nor his friend was involved in the fight.
The boy was released into the custody of his parents.
School officials declined to comment on the matter Thursday regarding what action they had taken in the matter.
Criminal threatening is a Class D misdemeanor, Shorey said. However, the fact that a knife was involved means the charge could be upgraded to Class C when the case goes to court.
