Hot Stove Banquet set Sunday

Bill Swift of South Portland, pitching ace for the San Francisco Giants and a former star for the University of Maine, will have his UM jersey No. 8 retired Sunday during the Black Bears’ annual Hot Stove Banquet at the Bangor Civic Center. The banquet, which starts at 5:30 p.m., will also honor former Maine pitcher Joe Ferris, announcer George Hale, and six team members who played in four consecutive College World Series. Sen. George Mitchell will be the guest speaker.
