GORHAM – Steph Shaw sank a pair of free throws with seven seconds remaining to sew up a 75-71 victory by Husson College over the University of Southern Maine in women’s college basketball play Monday night.
Husson, 7-5, built a 44-27 halftime lead, but the 7-3 Huskies battled back to take a 59-58 lead with 7:21 left to play. However, the Braves were able to outlast the Huskies.
Tara Leavitt’s 16 points and 13 rebounds led Husson’s balanced attack. Sarah Fenderson had 14 points, Tracy Parker had 12, and Stacy Hafford and Amy Dyer chipped in with 10 each.
Jamie Wood’s game-high 19 points paced USM. She also dished out a game-high six assists. Aimee Schneider had 16 points, Krista Chute added 12.
Husson outrebounded USM 43-32.
