Motorist charged with OUI, passing police roadblocks

THOMASTON — A Waldoboro man is in Knox County Jail charged with drunken driving and running police roadblocks Friday night.

James Littlefield, 30, is charged with operating under the influence, passing roadblocks and eluding police officers in driving that left two police cruisers slightly damaged.

Thomaston Police Chief James Hosford said his department received a call at about 6:30 p.m. Friday that two state police detectives were in pursuit of a Ford Ranger pickup truck being driven erratically on Old County Road.

Thomaston police officer Mark Ames set up a roadblock on Route 1, which Littlefield ignored. He then ran a roadblock put up by Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Gunn on Route 73.

Littlefield ran off the road when he failed to make a sharp turn on Hayden Point Road. “Officer Ames and Deputy Gunn blocked him in with their vehicles, but he tried to ram them with his truck,” Hosford said. “When that failed, he attempted to flee on foot, but was overtaken and arrested by the two officers.”

Hosford said damage to both cruisers is minor and both are still operable. A passenger in Littlefield’s truck, Hosford said, has not been charged.
