ELLSWORTH — Transition is the buzzword at Action Opportunities Inc. these days as Jeanie Mills, child care resource director, takes over AOI’s helm for the next year as agency administrator.
Mills will serve in the absence of Anne Spence, executive director, who is on a one-year education leave to begin her doctoral work at Syracuse University.
Mills has been with AOI for more than five years, beginning as the child care recruiter for Child Care Opportunities, the agency’s child care resource development center.
In 1989, Mills became the program director for the center. Two years ago, she took over as child care resource director with responsibility for all of AOI’s child care programs — the Ellsworth Child Care Center, After School Opportunities, Title XX subsidized child care, the child care food program for home providers, and Child Care Opportunities.
AOI also administers Head Start through 12 centers in Hancock and Washington counties. Barbara Peppey, a 12-year AOI veteran, will serve as director of program operations during the next year and will be responsible for Head Start operations.
