Butterfield retires from Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. – Ithaca coach Jim Butterfield, one of the winningest coaches in college football, announced Monday he will retire from his post after 27 years at the school.

Butterfield, who started at Ithaca in 1967, will retire at the end of the academic year.

Under Butterfield’s leadership, the Bombers won three NCAA Division III championships, appeared in 11 NCAA playoff games and had a 21-8 playoff record. The 65-year-old coach has a career record of 205-70-1.
