In recent weeks I have noticed that some of the local churches have been advertising on television. Business must be getting bad! I have nothing against religion, but if a church, hospital or private school can afford to advertise, it should be made to pay its fair share of taxes.
If churches were made to pay taxes, we would see a lot less cults cropping up and a lot less quacks like David Koresh hiding behind the Bible. Any old Tim, Dick and Harry can pick up a Bible and call himself a minister. There is money in it, and there is always some sucker who will listen. Ruth Blaisdell Bucksport
