ELLSWORTH — Downeast Sexual Assault Services is looking for volunteers to staff its 24-hour hot line.
Hot line advocates provide information and referral, support and advocacy for sexual assault victims, their families and friends. They also offer support at local hospitals for victims of recent assault.
To become a hot-line advocate, volunteers must complete a 24-hour training program which deals with the rape trauma syndrome, child sexual abuse, medical care of the assault victim, the law enforcement and legal system, and communication skills.
For more information on the training program or about Downeast Sexual Assault Services, call 1-800-492-5550.
The next training program will start at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 7. Professional continuing education credits are available.
