Bob DeLong’s pictures are very good. The one published in February of Ryan Post and Kevin Sprague putting up signs to cheer on the Rockland Tigers shows their wonderful school spirit.
I love kids with school spirit. I’m a retired teacher who loved her job. Their signs are readable and they are very handsome boys.
However, I’d like to point out to you and all BDN readers, that last year you published a letter and later an article, both of which were pleas not to put these signs on utility poles, because they, or rather, the brads and staples left in the poles after the signs are removed present a serious danger to workers who may when climbing poles puncture their gloves, and endanger their lives. …
I can’t tell if the pole in question carries electricity or not, but feel another article on the danger to linemen would not be out of order.
No offense, Mr. DeLong. The BDN has some excellent photographers and you are one of them. I’m merely concerned about the danger to our men who climb the poles in all kinds of Maine weather. I hate to think what we’d do without them. Patricia H. Thurston Bass Harbor
