Bounced checks bring charges

The man who assumed control of Bangor radio station WZON last summer was indicted Monday for allegedly writing payroll checks against insufficient funds.

Danny Lennon, 44, of Falmouth, Mass., was charged with negotiating worthless instruments, reportedly because eight to 10 paychecks totaling about $3,000 bounced in September.

Although Lennon has been in charge of the station, also known as Maine Talk Radio, his exact relationship with its owner of record, NEB Communications Inc., is unclear.

He purportedly is married to Nancy E. Boyd, who owns NEB, and was acting as the station’s general manager when several employees quit when their paychecks failed to clear the bank.

The station has been in bankruptcy proceedings and a trustee is overseeing its affairs.
