Temporary road commissioner designated

PALMYRA — With the resignation of the current administrative assistant-road commissioner taking effect in two days, Palmyra selectmen appointed public works employee Victor Kimball temporary road commissioner Tuesday night.

According to Patrick White, who will leave the administrative assistant’s position Dec. 31, more than six applications have been received for his replacement. All applications must be received by 5 p.m. Dec. 31, he said, and the selectmen have set no timetable for a new hiring.

In the meantime, two new office clerks also were sworn in Tuesday night. Lindsey Bray of Dexter was appointed temporary treasurer and Jean Plummer of Plymouth was appointed temporary town clerk and tax collector. They were hired to replace Donna Page and Kathie Hood, who had worked for the town part time for several years.

Hood is on medical leave and Page recently was indicted on charges of theft of town funds. Page was placed on administrative leave, without pay, and is appealing that action.

Clair Lacerta also was offered the option of remaining in a temporary position in the town office for several weeks to allow for a smooth transition.

The town office is back to a five-day schedule, according to White. The office will open at 8:30 a.m. daily, close from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. for lunch and close again at 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The resignation of Kenneth Hubel, chairman of the board of selectmen, also will take effect Dec. 31. White said that Willis Millet, the vice chairman of the board, would become the acting chairman. The next regular board meeting is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5.

In other action Tuesday night, the board voted to allow the Plannning Board and appeals board to attend a municipal workshop in Bangor on Thursday, Jan. 7, at a cost of $20 a person.
