DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis County Commissioners on Wednesday distributed $930 in state snowmobile excise tax returns for snowmobile trail improvement in the county’s unorganized townships.
John Brown, who represented a group that worked to repair the Interconnecting Trail System from Little Squaw Township to Squaw Mountain, was awarded $200 for the improvements.
The remainder of the funds was divided among five snowmobile clubs that provide service to the unorganized townships, based on mileage. The clubs requesting the funds, the amount of trails they groom in the unorganized townships, and the amount awarded to each for the services were as follows: Brownville Snowmobile Club, 35 miles, $132.05; Northeast Carry Snowmobile Club, 40 miles, $150.90; Narrow Gauge Riders, 13 1/2 miles, $51; Moosehead Riders Club, 70 miles of ITS, $264; and the Ebeeme Snowmobile Club, 35 miles, $132.05.
Applications for transfer stations for Orneville and Lily Bay townships were approved by the commissioners. The documents, along with application fees of $1,050 and $25, respectively, were forwarded to the Department of Environmental Protection.
The commissioners approved the appointment of Robert Young as part-time special investigator for the District Attorney’s Office at a salary of $2,500.
