Brewer man’s car demolished in accident

A Brewer man miraculously escaped serious injury Wednesday morning after his car went out of control, drove up a 50-foot embankment and then dropped back onto South Main Street.

David Woodman, 50, was traveling south on South Main Street toward Orrington at about 7:45 a.m. when he lost control of his 1987 Chevrolet station wagon.

The car slid across the median strip, crossed the northbound lane of South Main Street, skidded across a lawn and shot up a 50-foot embankment toward I-395.

When the car reached the plateau of the embankment, it plunged back to the street, landed on its nose, flipped over end to end and landed on its tires, said Brewer Police Officer Jay Munson.

Woodman was wearing his seat belt and received only minor injuries. He was treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center and later was released.

The car was demolished. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, Munson said.
