Schools adopt education policy

CARIBOU — The Caribou Board of Education has adopted a policy regarding requests by parents for an independent evaluation for the purpose of offering special education to students.

The policy details the procedure for an additional independent evaluation of students whose parents don’t agree with results of a school-administered evaluation.

Assistant superintendent Arthur Benner said Tuesday that if parents convince the special education director that the school evaluation was either inappropriate or insufficient, the policy enables them to petition for an outside evaluation at the expense of the school system.

At the board meeting last week, members hired Dwight Dorsey as ski coach at the Caribou Middle School. They also approved the second year of three-year contracts for Superintendent Irving Belanger and Benner.
