Cornell has win over Mule skaters

WATERVILLE – Becky Schmalz’s unassisted goal just 20 seconds into overtime gave Cornell University’s women’s hockey team a 1-0 win over Colby College at Alfond Arena here Sunday.

The loss gave Colby a 1-1 weekend as the Mules had beaten Vermont 7-2 on Saturday.

Colby is now 2-2 on the season. Cornell is 1-2 and Vermont fell to 1-3.

On Sunday, Chantal Toth made 29 saves for the winners and Jen Dursi made 27 stops for Colby.

On Saturday, Elna Gordon had two goals and two assists and Christy Everett contributed two goals and an assist to pace Colby to its win over the Catamounts.

Chris Haigh had a goal and an assist for the Mules with Anne McManus and Scottie King scoring the other goals. Dursi and Grace Jeanes combined for six saves in goal.

Erin Gurry and Meghan Brady scored for Vermont and goalie Lane Bevill made 24 saves.
