Planting-related grants available

AUGUSTA — Communities and volunteer groups are eligible for 50-50 cost-share grants for tree management plans, inventories, tree removal, maintenance, shade-tree education programs and planting projects, said Beth Reed, urban forester for the Department of Conservation’s Maine Forest Service.

Grant-writing workshops will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the following days and places: Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Waterville City Hall; Thursday, Oct. 22, at Portland Parks and Public Works, 55 Portland St.; Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department, 59 Bennett Drive; and Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Cherryfield Down-East RC&D Office, Route 182.
