12,000 people expected to attend University of Maine’s Homecoming

ORONO — More than 12,000 people are expected to attend the University of Maine’s annual Homecoming Weekend Friday through Sunday, Oct. 16-18. This year’s theme is “Set Sail for … Maine! Ship’s Log — 1992.”

Highlights of the program include the UM Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet at 7 p.m. Friday at the Black Bear Inn, with a social at 6 p.m. On Saturday the schedule includes the College of Sciences Alumni Emeriti Reception at 9 a.m. at 263 Aubert Hall; open house receptions for alumni, families and friends in the colleges of Applied Sciences and Agriculture, Arts and Humanities, Business Administration, Education, Forest Resources and University College at 9:30 a.m.; and a special meeting of the UM Alumni Association at 10 a.m. in 101 Neville Hall to amend the constitution and bylaws.

Judging for the sixth annual Alumni Tailgate Picnic Theme Competition begins at noon Saturday on the most elegant, best “Maine” nostalgia, best state-of-Maine theme, best “beat URI” theme and best Halloween-harvest theme. Trophies are given for the best in each category. The runners-up receive ribbons, and a grand prize trophy goes to the best of show. The Alumni Family Tailgate Picnic starts at 10:30 a.m.

The homecoming football game against the University of Rhode Island Rams will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday on Alumni Field.
