Widow gives 3 islands to institute

WALDOBORO — When James Sampson Cooney died this spring his wife, Johnny, gave three islands, Hungry Island in Bremen, Black Island in Friendship, and Two Bush Island off Matinicus, to the Island Institute, with an endowment to care for them.

Sampson had acquired four islands in Muscongus Bay during the early 1980s and he and his family, Waldoboro summer residents, liked to spend vacation time on them.
