The Chisholm Ski Club in Rumford, no stranger to hosting some big international cross country ski races, now will be hosting a big national meet.
From Jan. 8-15, Chisholm will be the host for the 1993 Subaru U.S. Cross Country Skiing Championships. The U.S. Ski Team announced the ’93 site Saturday.
Officials released a statement on the Rumford site and why they feel it is a good one for the U.S. Championships.
“We’re excited about going to Rumford,” said U.S. Ski Association Cross Country Technical Director Hugh Cooke. “The Chisholm Ski Club did a fabulous job with the Junior Olympics last year.”
“We’re delighted to have this major event coming to Rumford,” added Danny Warner, chairman of the organizing committee.
U.S. Ski Team officials expect more than 300 nordic skiers to take part in the meet, which will be televised nationally by ESPN.
