Shirley school board approves education budget for 1993

SHIRLEY — The Shirley School Committee on Tuesday approved unanimously a budget of $288,292 for the 1993 school year. The budget reflects a decrease of $9,833 from the previous year.

The budget includes salary increases to teachers Kathy Bishop of $600 and to Brenda Patterson of $1,200. A teacher’s aide and custodian will receive a 3 1/2 percent increase in their salaries.

According to Superintendent Gilbert Reynolds, it appears the high school tuition will increase by about $31,000 because of the large number of ninth-graders entering Greenville High School, while a decrease will be reflected in elementary tuition.

The committee approved policies on communicable diseases and adopted a calendar for 1993 that includes 176 student days and four teacher workshops.
