MAINE vs. DARTMOUTH
Time, site: 7 p.m., at Berry Sports Center, Hanover, N.H.
Records: Maine 0-3, Dartmouth 2-1
Series: Maine leads 4-0, including 83-45 win last season
Key players: Maine – F Heather Briggs (12.3 ppg, 8.0 rpg), G Carrie Goodhue (11.0 ppg), G Julie Bradstreet (10.3 ppg, 4.0 spg), C Cyndi Buetow (7.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg), F Tracey Frenette (6.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg); Dartmouth – F Brandi Jones (12.6 ppg), G Renee Reed (11.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 4.3 apg), F Sara Bone (9.3 ppg), G Tara Burke (8.0 ppg), C Ilsa Webeck (7.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg)
Outlook: The Black Bears are beat up. Sophomore point guard Chris Strong (knee), senior forward Jess Carpenter (ankle), and freshman reserve guard Erin Grealy (concussion) are all out of action. Maine’s Frenette and Goodhue must play better than last weekend’s Downeast Classic tournament showing where they shot a combined 5-for-29 (17 percent) from the floor. The key for Coach Jacqueline Hullah’s Dartmouth team will be the play of Reed, a 5-9 junior, Jones, a 5-11 freshman, and Webeck, a 6-4 sophomore.
HUSSON vs. COLBY
Time, site: 7 p.m., at Newman Gym, Bangor
Records: Husson 5-0, Colby 1-3
Key players: Husson – F Anne Cote (17.4 ppg), C Stephanie Lebel (17.0 ppg, 8.8 rpg), F Michelle Hamlin (11.0 ppg, 6.6 rpg), G Darci Collins (8.5 ppg 5.5 apg), G Kristi Wildman (8.0 ppg, 4.6 spg); Colby – C Beth Montgomery (14.0 ppg), F Kathy Pooler (12.3 ppg), G Adria Lowell (12.3 ppg), G-F Liz Cimino (9.3 ppg)
Outlook: Husson’s inside game and pressure defense are the two keys in this contest. The return of Collins has added a boost to the Braves. First-year coach Carol Ann Beach has seen a lot of good things in the Mules, despite the team’s slow start. Montgomery, a 6-2 center from Rockland, will spearhead Colby in the paint. Cimino (knee injury) is questionable.
Wednesday’s other games: St. Thomas at UM-Machias (7 p.m.), Bowdoin at Bates (6 p.m.), UM-Presque Isle at UM-Fort Kent (7 p.m.), Thomas at UM-Farmington (5:30)
