Presque Isle will kick off Christmas with Holiday Light Parade

PRESQUE ISLE — Visitors to the largest city in Aroostook County will find plenty to do during a special weekend scheduled for Dec. 14-15.

According to Bobbie Dow, the executive director of the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce, the Second Annual Holiday Light Parade will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14, 1991. The parade will start at the North Plaza at 7 p.m. and proceed south on Main Street to the University of Maine at Presque Isle. The parade, which is sponsored by the Chamber, will include an appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Santa will visit with the children attending the Kiwanis Club breakfast scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m., Dec. 14, at the Elks Lodge in Presque Isle. The cost is $3.50 for adults and $2 for children under age 12.

Other weekend events include a “Collectible Bonanza” at the Presque Isle Rec Center and a children’s Christmas party at the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club. Both events will take place on Sunday, Dec. 15.

“We’re trying to create a mini-festival that will draw people from the immediate area, as well as Canada, to spend the day or maybe the weekend shopping and visiting in Presque Isle,” Dow said.

She emphasized that in participation with the Holiday Light Parade, some downtown merchants would offer extended store hours on Dec. 14. With stores open for shopping on Sunday, Dec. 15, “this marks a good time to take advantage of our excellent shopping opportunities,” Dow said.
