JONESPORT — The Search Committee of Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church has emplyed the Rev. Bernard L. Brown of Columbia Falls to serve as interim pastor. Brown provides a 9:30 a.m. service at the United Methodist Church at Columbia and will minister at 11 a.m. at the Jonesport church each Sunday. He also will provide pastoral leadership and spiritual oversight for other needs in the congregation and community.
Brown was ordained in 1958 and has served in Canada, Maine, and New York. His last pastorate was at the Wesleyan Church, Beals. He attended Bethany Bible College, at Sussex, New Brunswick, received his secondary education certifcation at Machias and completed post-graduate courses at the University of Maine at Orono and at Salem State College, Salem, Mass.
Brown and his wife, Jean, have four grown children and three grandchildren.
“Obviously,” explains Brown, “there is a great need for a spiritual awakening throughout the United States. The church has almost always been a key to revival. As an educator, it is alarming to see that often the lack of spiritual development has resulted in limited academic development.”
Sunday school will be at 11 a.m. Sundays at the youth center.
