Refreshing exception

In this era of discontent with elected officials on all levels, I feel compelled to point out a refreshing exception to the apathetic, self-serving attitude many of our legislators have adopted.

Our company (Merle Lloyd and Sons) has been involved with the Maine State Department of Environmental Protection since 1989 trying to resolve an issue in Norridgewock involving alleged environmental violations and the licensing of a gravel pit.

During this process we attempted to contact several legislators about problems we were having dealing with DEP, but were met with apathy and inaction. After several dry runs we contacted Sen. Charles Webster and were very pleased at the results. Charlie took time out of his schedule to attend several meetings on our issue and was very helpful and instrumental in achieving a tentative agreement.

Charlie’s reaction to our problem should serve as an example to other legislators. His genuine concern showed a strong commitment to the people he represents. In case anybody suspects partisan politics, I am a registered Democrat. However, results are results regardless of political party. Jeff Lloyd Anson
