Panel seeks to sell house

ROCKLAND — Recycling has become so popular in the city that officials have started recycling houses.

The Midcoast Human Resources Council is looking for a family to purchase a three-bedroom house on James Street. The house was dedicated recently as the conclusion of the James Street Affordable House Project.

At one time, the house was a Head Start classroom. With the completion of a new building, the former Head Start structure was moved to a lot on James Street, which was donated by the city.

The Maine Association of Realtors Foundation provided a grant for the moving project and initial renovation work. The Rockland Community Development program and the Androscoggin Savings Bank provided loans to complete the interior renovations. The work has included a new foundation, two new bedrooms, a new heating system, a new kitchen and a new bathroom.

Income eligible buyers may seek additional information and applications at the Human Resource Council office on Park Street. The current sale price is $23,500. Due to the nature of funding, only income-eligible people will be considered. For example, a family of four with an income of $16,700 or less would be income-eligible. The purchase would take a down payment of $1,175 and closing costs of $1,150. Applicants must have a satisfactory credit and rental history.
