MILO — Learning about government was the highlight of a recent meeting of the Joseph P. Chaisson American Legion Post and Auxiliary at the post home.
The event was the annual Dirigo Boys-Girls State Night, and delegates gave a report of their participation at the summer program. Funding for the delegates was raised by Legion and Auxiliary members.
Timothy Gallagher of Milo, a delegate last spring, said the elections were “almost the real thing. The only difference between our program and the real thing is that we didn’t waste as much money.” Gallagher said.
After the students’ presentations, F. Davis Clark, post commander, spoke briefly about the importance of government. He told the delegates that there are three things the country needs: “good management, good labor, and good citizens interested in country affairs.” He urged all to participate throughout their lives.
