The Home Care Alliance of Maine has recognized Dr. George Bostwick of Bangor as Home Care Advocate of the Year. Bostwick was selected because of his involvement in interpreting home-care programs and services to groups and individuals and the individual’s ability to initiate action that promotes the image of home-care services. Bostwick developed the community health component of the Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Family Practice Residents Program. He is chairman of the Eastern Agency on Aging’s Project Maine Neighbor. He is medical adviser to the Bangor District Nursing Association, Community Health and Counseling Services, and the Eastern Agency on Aging.

Dr. Holly McDaniel, a former Bangor resident and a 1982 graduate of Orono High School, has been chosen by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a 1991 Sheard Sanford Award winner for her research paper “Lymphoproliferative Disorders of Granular Lymphocytes (LDGL): A Heterogeneous Disease.” It will be published in the American Journal of Clinical Pathology. The award will be presented at the ASCP-CAP fall meeting in New Orleans this month. A 1991 graduate of the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, Dr. McDaniel recently began a residency in pathology at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Cynthia Dinardo of Bangor has been awarded a scholarship from the Two-Ten International Footwear Foundation. She attends the University of Maine, and she was chosen from more than 1,600 applicants to this year’s program.

Elizabeth Genco, daughter of Joseph and Helen Genco of Orono, received faculty honors for the spring semester at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. To earn this honor, a student must achieve a semester grade-point average of A-minus or better.

Jennifer Boudreau, 10, of Charleston won the pre-teen division of the Great Maine Model Search held Aug. 9-10 at the Bangor Civic Center. She received $1,000, a color television, a 35mm camera, a photo shoot, and a contract to do a commercial. She is the daughter of Dave and Dee Boudreau.

Jennifer Greer, daughter of Nancy and James Greer of Brewer, has completed special summer studies at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor. Greer, who attends the University of Rochester, worked with Dr. Jane Barker and researched the lifespan of red blood cells in preparation for a project paper presented during a Jackson Laboratory symposium. The lab is one of the world’s largest mammalian genetics research facilities. Greer was one of 27 students selected nationwide from more than 400 candidates to participate in summer research there.

Jennifer Pusey, daughter of Drs. Paul and Judith Pusey of Bangor, spent July in Washington, D.C., serving as a page in the Senate. She was sponsored by Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell. Her duties included delivering correspondence, assisting senators on the floor of the Senate, and receiving amendments to be included in the Congressional Record.
