Two local youths were injured Monday when they lost control of their bicycles in separate accidents during the afternoon.
According to police, Rodney Barnett was injured when he lost control of his bike on Church Street. Barnett received possible broken bones. Later in the afternoon, Joe Giaerson lost control of his bike on Mill Street, injuring his back and neck. Both were treated by Dexter Ambulance crews and taken to Mayo Regional Hospital. Motor vehicles were not involved in either accident.
Somerset County Sheriff’s Department deputies handled a variety of complaints this week.
On Sunday, Deputy Richard Emery responded to a call to St. Albans Elementary School after it was reported that five vehicles were squealing tires and people were “yelling and screaming.”
At 2 a.m. Wednesday, Deputy Craig Johnson handled a van-moose accident in West Forks. No injury was reported.
Also on Wednesday, the Moose River Country Store on Route 15 in Rockwood reported the theft of a $1,000 refrigeration unit. Deputy Rene Guay is investigating.
In Pittsfield this week, Officer Ronald Richards recovered a 1990 Skidoo snowmobile abandoned in the woods off Hartland Avenue. The machine, valued at $4,500, was stolen last winter from Huff Forest Products of Detroit.
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Pittsfield officer Chris Tremblay investigated the report of a theft on Summer Street. No information was available about the value or type of items taken.
Pittsfield firefighters responded to a car fire on Route 100 about 1 p.m. Tuesday, and a brush fire on the Madawaska Road at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
