McKenney 2-hits Pats

MILO – Travis McKenney hurled a 2-hit shutout to lead the Piscataquis Community Pirates to a 4-0 schoolboy baseball victory over the Penquis Patriots here Tuesday.

McKenney struck out 15 for the 13-2 winners of Guilford.

McKenney also knocked in a run with a single in the fourth inning. Brook Carlton had the only other Pirate hit, a triple in the second inning.

For the 4-8 Patriots, Rob Peaslee singled in the fourth inning and Troy Chase singled in the sixth.

At East Millinocket, Mike Noble had 3 singles and 2 RBIs to lead the Lee Academy Pandas to the win over host Schenck.

For the 10-4 Pandas, Dwayne Grass singled twice, doubled and drove in a run. Mike Jipson had 2 singles and 2 RBIs.

Chad Hale singled twice for the 5-8 Wolverines. Jeremy Hendsbee doubled and drove in 2 runs.

At East Sullivan, the Tigers rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Knights of Harrington.

Senior T.J. Schaefer drove in two runs with a bases-loaded double. The winning run then came across on Garth Hudson’s suicide squeeze.

Righthander Bobby Bridges, now 4-2, earned the win for the 7-6 Tigers by scattering nine hits while striking out four and walking only one. Bridges aided his own cause with two singles and Wally Coombs contributed two singles and an RBI. Schaefer chipped in with another double and single.

Brad Marston singled twice and drove in a run for the 8-5 Knights. Mark Leighton and Brian Marston each added a double with Marston driving in a run.

At Millinocket, Scott Tash gave up 11 hits, but didn’t walk anybody and only surrendered 3 runs as Mattanawcook of Lincoln won their ninth game in 12 outings.

Tash also struck out 5 batters to earn the win. Jason House and Chris Thornton led a balanced 6-hit MA attack with RBI singles.

For Stearns, 7-5, Larry Michaud, Dan Landry, Damian Dow, and Jason Pray each posted a pair of base hits.

At Madawaska, Dave Clavette tripled twice and hit a 2-run home run as the Owls defeated the Pioneers.

Pierre Michaud hit a 2-run homer, singled, tripled and knocked in a total of 5 runs for the 9-4 Owls. Paul Hebert also homered and singled and Scott Lajoie doubled twice, singled and drove in 4 runs. Isaac Cyr added 2 singles, a double and 3 RBIs.

For the Pioneers, now 1-12, J.J. Roy singled and doubled and Glenn Paradis had an RBI single.

At Mars Hill, Sheldon Bragon belted a 3-run home run in the fifth inning as the Southern Aroostook Warriors rolled by the Central Aroostook Panthers.

Brett Russell hit a 2-run homer in the sixth inning for the Warriors and John Porter hit a solo homer in the second. Darren Crane added a triple, 4 singles and 3 runs batted in.

Jeremy York singled three times and knocked in 2 runs for the 6-8 Panthers. Derek Towns added 2 singles and 2 RBI and Jonny Moir singled twice and knocked in a run.

Greenville 22, Valley 12

At Bingham, Jason Simpson’s triple, 2 singles, and 2 RBIs spearheaded an 18-hit attack as the Lakers cruised past the host Cavaliers in a contest which featured a combined 34 runs and 32 hits.

For Greenville, 4-8, Matt Murray had a double, 2 singles, and an RBI; Travis Carpenter had a double and a single; Scott Saucier plated 2 runs with 2 singles; Billy Chandler had a bases-loaded triple; Travis Morrell had a triple, single, and RBI; and Brian Morrill had 2 singles.

Valley, now 1-11, got 2 singles and 4 RBIs from Steve Davis and Basil Messer added 3 singles.
