The Spruce Run Association will celebrate its 18th anniversary from 9 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at the University of Maine Memorial Union with a party to benefit battered women and their children.
The celebration will be a dessert party with chocolate desserts. At 7:30 p.m. the play, “Ah, Women!” will be presented at Hauck Auditorium. Tickets are $10, and a prize of a chocolate dessert will be delivered anywhere in southern Penobscot or Hancock county each month through December.
Desserts have been donated by local businesses and individuals. Tickets are available by calling 945-5102 or 667-9489 during the day, or 942-4055 or 942-8589 in the evening. Tickets also will be available at the door.
Spruce Run provides emergency shelter, counseling, information and referral services to victims of domestic violence and their children. In 1990, 190 women and children were sheltered, and services were provided to 1,262 women and children from Penobscot and Hancock counties.
A public education program including radio and television announcements, a speakers bureau, and training programs for police are part of Spruce Run’s services.
