HOULTON — Houlton and state police are continuing their joint investigation into the related weekend theft of two pickup trucks and the attempted theft of two other vehicles.
Staff Sgt. Daniel Pelletier of the Houlton Police Department said that police received a report Sunday morning that a 1990 Dodge Dakota pickup truck belonging to Raymond Varney of Drake’s Hill in Houlton had been stolen sometime after 8 p.m. Saturday.
Trooper John Cote of Troop F in Houlton said that at about the same time police in Houlton were looking for Varney’s vehicle, state police received a call from Gary Wilson of Ross Ridge Road in Littleton who reported that his 1990 Ford pickup truck was missing.
Wilson also said that a Ford Bronco II and another Ford pickup truck that were in his yard had been driven out of his yard and off the road across from his house.
In addition, he reported that another pickup truck had been driven into a snowbank near his property.
Cote said the description of the truck in the snowbank matched the description of the one stolen from Varney.
In the meantime, Pelletier, who had been looking for Varney’s vehicle, answered a complaint about an abandoned vehicle at the Houlton Plaza parking lot. That vehicle turned out to be the pickup truck stolen from Wilson.
Pelletier said the pickup truck stolen from Wilson sustained about $400 to $500 damage.
Cote said police had some leads and the investigation was continuing.
