Water main punctured

VEAZIE — A broken water main here forced the Bangor Water District to temporarily use another pump Wednesday.

A crew from Silver’s Construction Co. was working on a local project on the lower end of Chase Road when it hit a sewer main, gouging an eight-inch hole in a 12-inch pipe.

Thousands of gallons of water escaped until workers got the spill under control, replacing the pipe, according to Henry Vaughn of the Veazie Fire Department.

Because of the break, the water district had to make up the deficit by temporarily adding another pump to the force, he said.
