ELLSWORTH — Funeral services for Dwight A. Brown, 72, a prominent Ellsworth businessman and former legislator, will be held at the Union Congregational Church, Ellsworth Falls, at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Brown, who died Monday at a Bangor hospital, owned and operated the Dwight A. Brown Agency for 39 years. From 1957 through 1967, he served five consecutive terms in the Maine Legislature — two in the House of Representatives, followed by three in the State Senate, where he was minority floor leader.
In the Legislature, he served on the Taxation, Appropriation, Highway, Business Legislation and Legislative Research committees. He had been a member of the Hancock County Commission, was active in local service clubs and church organizations, and was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Anah Temple Shrine.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Lois, are two daughters, a son, two brothers, a sister, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
