I am the owner of a year-round restaurant in Bar Harbor and I would like to share an experience that happened the other night.
For the last year there has been a display near our front door. Most everyone has seen the people from the Leukemia Society of America asking for some form of donation. Well, a few months ago I noticed some kind-hearted person put paper bills in the box. I left it alone and noticed other people also were putting bills in the wishing well. I applaud these people for their unselfish giving. With their help a cure may soon be found for this disease that strikes so many.
This morning when I was watering the plants I peeked in the top and to my dismay, all the paper bills were gone. I could not believe someone would steal from the Leukemia Society. This is one of the lowest forms of crime I have ever heard of. Whomever you may be, I hope you see this letter. If you know this person, I hope you do not consider them a friend. They are lower than a snake’s belly. Hundreds of people die each year because there is no known cure, and you stole the wishes for one. David Hopkins MaMa DiMatteo’s Italian Restaurant Bar Harbor
