The 42nd Services Squadron Food Service branch at Loring Air Force Base was winner of the 1990 R.T. Rhiney Jr. Food Service Management Award. The award is presented annually to the two Strategic Air Command food service programs which excel in all areas, according to SAC regulations.
There were two categories, multiple facility and single facility. Loring qualifies for the multiple unit with Dahlgren Hall, the alert facility’s Cafe 135, and a flight kitchen inside the base operations buildings. The Rhiney Award winners become the command nominees for the Hennessy Trophy Award.
The 42nd Air Refueling Squadron logged another accomplishment when it was named Strategic Air Command’s winner of the 1989 Outstanding Tanker Training Initiative Award. The award recognized the tanker training flight that contributed the most innovative ground and inflight training programs during the year. The award was more significant when considering the competition — one of the other finalists was the 330th Combat Flight Instructor Squadron at Castle AFB, Calif., a unit whose primary mission is training.
The 42nd Civil Engineering Squadron recently won the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for the period of July 1, 1988 to June 30, 1990. The award follows on the heels of three consecutive above average ratings from the SAC inspector general, a “best in SAC” rating for snow removal excellence in 1988, and SAC Civil Engineering Squadron of the year for 1989.
