ELLSWORTH — Members of the Ellsworth School Committee ignored a request Thursday evening for open discussion by the board concerning its plans to purchase property in the city.
The Bangor Daily News formally objected to an executive, or closed, session called by Ken Shea, school committee chairman, to discuss progress on the committee’s efforts to locate and secure an option on a piece of land.
The property has yet to be assigned a specific purpose by the committee.
The committee members declined to answer a NEWS reporter’s inquiries pertaining to the intent of the negotiations and the identification of the parcels in question.
“What we’re looking at right now is a middle school application and somewhere down the road, we’re going to get a middle school application or a school application approved, and to do that we do need a site,” said Bruce Sawyer, superintendent of the Ellsworth School Department. “We’re looking at sites and when we have an option secured, that’s when we will go to the public.”
