McKernan praises Cianbro at dedication of new facility

PITTSFIELD — Gov. John R. McKernan praised Cianbro Corp. at dedication ceremonies Wednesday for a new state-of-the-art industrial painting and fabrication facility at the company’s headquarters in Pittsfield.

“A priority of service and a commitment to excellence, combined with a Maine work force, is a winning combination for Cianbro,” said McKernan. “Investments such as this are what make America competitive.”

He continued by pointing out that Cianbro has made a commitment to Maine beyond its leadership in business.

“Whether it’s supporting the Boy Scouts or the Blaine House Restoration Project, they’ve made a commitment to the future and they’ve encouraged their employees to do the same to make Maine the place where we all want to live,” he said.

New facilities on Route 69 in Pittsfield include a fabrication and painting operation geared primarily for the highly specialized needs of the multifaceted construction company.

The shop has developed a computer-centered facility that will offer a full range of engineering support services. Steel detailing, estimating, and inventory will be primary functions of the new support group.

The painting facility, outfitted with the latest painting methods and technologies, will allow Cianbro to provide complete raw materials-to-finished-product services, or to renovate existing materials or heavy equipment.

President Alton “Chuck” Cianchette was particularly proud of the fabrication shop’s safety record of five years without a lost-time accident.

The work force at the facilities will total more than 40 employees on a current single-shift basis.
