Scanty Little League coverage

As a faithful reader of the Bangor Daily News, and in particular the sports section, I am extremely disappointed by the recent lack of Little League baseball coverage for the Coastal baseball team (comprised of teams from Blue Hill, Brooklin-Sedgwick, Brooksville, Castine, Deer Isle-Stonington,and Penobscot), which has just won the District 3 championships.

Considering that District 3 includes all of Hancock, Washington, Aroostook and, yes, even Penobscot counties, I hoped there would at least be a NEWS photographer on hand for the championship series with the Border team from Aroostook, but to the best of my knowledge, not a single NEWS sportswriter or photographer was present.

It seems odd that so much time and space in your paper is dedicated to other summer baseball programs (i.e., the Eastern Maine Amateur Baseball League), when these Little Leaguers are making memories to last their lifetimes. Are brief write-ups on Little League championships, in favor of detailed articles on EMABL regular season games (and other filler stories), what the majority of your readers want? I think, and hope, not.

Had the game involved a Bangor team instead of Coastal, there would have been a surplus of NEWS personnel on hand. Too bad to ignore such a large segment of your readership. Freddie Cole Sedgwick
