AMHC Helpline needs volunteers

PRESQUE ISLE — The Aroostook Mental Health Center Helpline is soliciting applications from prospective volunteers to assist with the crisis-intervention program. The Helpline is a countywide, 24-hour crisis, information and referral hotline.

Volunteers receive training in communication and crisis-intervention skills and provide crisis and support services to callers on evenings and weekends.

In the early 1980s, fewer than 10 calls a day were received, but today more than 20,000 calls a year are received, according to AMHC officials.
