Family activities planned at annual YMCA program

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Face Painting, clowns, arts and crafts, a puppet theater, pony rides and parachute games will all be part of the second annual Children and Family Celebration to be held from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Piscataquis Regional YMCA.

Sponsored by the Penquis Abuse Council and the Piscataquis Regional YMCA, this free event will feature special performances in decal gymnastics, juggling, fit kids, a sing-a-long with the “Three of Us,” police dog demonstrations, and Caribbean and Central American dancing. Swimming in the YMCA pool will be available in the afternoon on a limited basis.

Children will have an opportunity to participate in a cake walk, mural painting and in a variety of other activities. Flyers will be distributed the day of the celebration detailing the times and areas of special performances.

There will be no parking in the YMCA lot or along Park Street for this celebration. Also, participants are asked to avoid parking on side streets. Suggested parking places include Penquis Orthopedics and Mayo Regional Hospital lots on Dwelley Avenue, the front parking lot only at Central Maine Power Co. on Mechanic and Park streets and in the Kiwanis Park parking lot on Mechanic Street.

Motorists are asked to use caution when traveling in the area of the YMCA as buses will be loading and unloading children and numerous pedestrians will be walking in the area.
