Egg scholarship open to teens

PITTSFIELD — The Central Maine Egg Festival Scholarship Program, a part of the Central Maine Egg Festival each July in Pittsfield, offers an opportunity for young people to compete for scholarships or savings bonds.

Last year for the first time, the program expanded the “Royal Family” by adding another age group, 13- to 15-year-olds, to the competition. The senior age group, 16- to 18-year-olds, will compete for a $1,000 scholarship, while the new junior group will compete for a $500 savings bond.

All contestants compete in five categories: fitness, poise, scholarship, creative performing arts and personal interview. Contestants receiving the highest scores in each of these categories will receive savings bonds, giving even more opportunities for contestants to win.

Any teen-ager interested in entering the Scholarship Program should contact Debra Susi, North Main Street, Pittsfield 04967, for an application and more information on the various categories to be judged. Deadline for applications is April 30.
