Two incumbents in Cherryfield returned to office

CHERRYFIELD — Voters at the municipal election Thursday returned Arther Tenan to office as selectman and tax assessor and Roger W. Mathews Jr. as school director. The two candidates, who were unopposed, will serve three-year terms.

Tenan will rejoin incumbent selectmen and tax assessors Charles Tenan, whose terms in each office will expire in March 1991, and Harry Hopkins, whose terms will expire in March 1992.

Mathews’s local colleagues on the SAD 37 board of directors are Kevin Barbee, whose term of office will expire in March 1991, and Sheila Tatangelo, whose term will expire in March 1992.

Selectmen and tax assessors are elected separately. Selectmen also serve as overseers of the poor. Municipal officials other than selectmen, tax assessors and school directors serve by appointment.

Phyllis Sproul served as warden of the annual municipal election, in which about 70 ballots were cast.

The annual town meeting will resume at 7 p.m. Monday, March 12, in the town office, where voters will act on 36 articles of business.
